Senior girl stands holding certificateSenior Kylie Surratt was selected as this year's St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete from Pattonville High School. In its 58th year, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete program honors one student from every area school, a requirement being that they participate in athletics and excel in the classroom.

Surratt is ranked No. 23 in the Class of 2024 and played volleyball for the Pirates. She was named the all-conference player of the year three times and all-district first team all four years. This year alone, Surratt was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) all-American and all-region; all-state first team; and all-metro. She served as a volleyball team captain for three years and is the Pattonville High School record holder in volleyball career kills, match kills, match blocks and most matches played. She also plays club volleyball. At Pattonville, Surratt also played lacrosse for a year and served as the boys volleyball team manager for two years.

Off the court, she was named academic all-state, all-district and all-conference all four years of high school and received the AVCA best and brightest honor. She is a member of the National Honor Society and National English Honor Society and supports the Special Olympics of Missouri. Surratt has been on the student council all four years and is co-president this year. Her favorite subject is math because solving math problems relates to solving real-world problems.

“My mom is my biggest role model and someone that I strive to be like when I grow up,” Surratt said. “She is a kind, loving, and strong woman that would do anything for anyone. She pushes me to do things that I never thought I would have been able to accomplish. She exemplifies characteristics of ambition and determination that I hope to take with me forever.”

Surratt will continue her academic and volleyball career at the University of Tennessee-Martin where she will study exercise science.

“I hope to be a strong, confident woman that continues to do my best at every opportunity that comes my way,” she said. “I hope to be someone that others can go to if they need someone to talk to or just need a friend. I will be the best person I can be through love and support.”
