In-person and Villemade students at Parkwood Elementary recently completed a collaborative mural that was installed near the front lobby of the school. Students can interact with it and have their picture taken.
“We were inspired by Kelsey Montague who is an internationally-known street artist who creates interactive art,” art teacher Ms. Janel MacLean said.
She has artwork all over the world, and third grade teacher Ms. Brittany Flachs recently took a photo in front of the one in Nashville which features a pair of wings.
“Her art just brings people into the middle of it and we wanted to do something like that here,” MacLean said.
The theme of Montague’s Nashville piece is #WhatLiftsYou.
“We decided one way to lift up our school and bring everybody together when some of us are apart is art,” MacLean said.
She had all of her students contribute to the mural regardless of their learning choice.
“Students in the art room used watercolors and online students did it on SeeSaw and made digital versions that we were able to print,” she said. “Because all of Kelsey’s work is done using paint pens, I bought the same kind of paint pens she uses so the kids could use those, too.”
